With the invention of electricity and subsequently light has changed the lives of mankind. Human being has started moving against nature by changing their life styles. We are working more hours and losing sleep. People across the globe are working beyond sunset due to availability of light.
Mankind is conserving the natural resources to produce to control the climate. We are using coolers/ air conditioners in hot places and using heaters in the cold climate areas. Even during the day time also people are habituated for artificial light. This has lead to the consumption of more energy. This is leading to the increase in temperatures across the globe causing for the rise in temperature levels of mother earth.
Now a campaign has begun to control the usage of energies and reduce the consumption of electricity. Wwf has initiated action to observe one hour in a year as earth hour.
Earth hour facts in India: March 26th is the date on which earth hour is observed across the world. This was initially started in 2007 and India has joined to observe earth hour from 2009. In 2009 nearly 50 lakh people across 56 cities in India have observed March 26th as earth hour. Later in 2010, public in more than 125 cities have observed earth hour. This year in 2011, the spread has increased and more are likely to join the campaign. In 2011 the earth hour is observed between 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM on 26th march 2011.
Earth hour activities: Activities on earth hour include switching off of all non essential lights for one hour. The time of earth hour is between 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM on the day of earth hour. The activities across the globe include switching off of Eiffel tower in Paris, pyramids in Egypt, acropolis in Greece and Hiroshima peace gardens in Japan also observe earth hour.
