How is Ganesh Chaturthi Festival celebrated in India?
Pooja is performed for lord Ganesh with fruits, leaves, vegetables and flowers. Sweets are distributed after completion of Puja. Usually the Pooja is performed for about nine days every day in the evening. On the last day lord Ganesh is taken in procession and get immersed in water usually in the lakes, rivers and tanks that are nearby.

As colors are added to the idol, it is causing pollution to the water and environment. Now people became conscious about environment and are using idols made of mud clay. Now devotees are using natural colors for the decoration of idols. Environmentalists are campaigning for using green ganesh for this festival.
