This year in 2012 India is going to celebrate its 66th independence day on August 15th. British have ruledIndia for more than two centuries.India along withPakistan has got independence on this day. So many people across all regions ofIndia have fought for the freedom. Now Indians are enjoying the freedom.  So many citizens have sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle. Now it is the responsibility of every citizen ofIndia to protect its nation.

The day of independence is observed as national and public holiday across the nation. Citizens irrespective of their religion, language and region celebrate independent day with great patriotism. National leaders those engaged in the freedom struggle are remembered by the citizens. Speeches are given about the freedom movement. Patriotic songs are sung on this event. Heads of institutions hoist the national flag. Sweets, chocolates are distributed in the schools, colleges and offices. National anthem and national song are sung on this event.
