Onam is one of the important festivals for the people of Kerala. Onam is a Hindu festival that falls usually in then months of August and September. Onam is also said to be the harvest festival for Kerala people. Onakkodi, ona sadhya, Pookalam and boat are the events associated with Onam festival. Onakkodi is new clothes, ona sadhya is a lavish feast and Pookalam is then decoration of court yard with flowers and flower petals. Onam is celebrated as a welcome to ancient emperor Mahabali. It is said that Mahabali has ruled Kerala state in ancient times and the stat5e has prospered during the rule of Mahabali.

Ona sadhya is a lavish feast and is enjoyed by the family members and relatives. This is usually served on the banana leaf. Boat races also known as vallamkali are organized during then Onam festive season. People participate with great enthusiasm in the boat races.
