Lord Jagannath temple is located in Puri in Orissa state. Rathyatra is the main event organized at Jagannath temple in Puri. Rath yatra is nothing but traveling on a chariot. Idols of lord Krishna (Lord Jagannath), his brother Balabhadra and wife subhadra are kept in separate chariots (rath) and are taken in procession to Gundicha from jagannath temple and are kept there for nine days.  After nine days these idols are get back in the same manner and is called Bahuda yatra.

Date of Jagannath rath yatra: It commences on the second day of bright half moon in the month of ashada, which usually comes in June-July months. This year in 2011 it happens on 3rd July

Jagannath rathyatra celebrations 2011: Hindu devotees from Orissa state and other parts of India and through out the world consider this rath yatra as auspicious event. Devotees of lord Jagannath believe that pulling of the chariot leads to salvation of life. Thousands of Hindu devotees come to puri on this occasion and try to hold the rope for pulling the rath (chariot). Every year new rath is prepared and the old rath will be destroyed.

    Goddess Subhadra is the sister or Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra.

    It is written by mistake as ‘wife’
